Geelong Cats AFLW midfielder Renee Garing and husband Tony have tackled the auction market, scoring a new family home in Highton.

The Garings, with young son Parker, snapped up the renovated four-bedroom Mulquiney Cres home in an auction contested by two groups on Saturday.

The 899sq m property sold for $1.18m as the family moves across Highton to a flat part of the suburb.

“We’ve wanted to live in Highton. We’ve just sold ourselves in another part of Highton and we like the proximity obviously to schools and walks and local cafes and things,” Ms Garing said.

“We’ve been we’ve been looking for a while since we sold ours and it’s been quite competitive, especially for four-bedroom family homes, so we’re really glad that we finally found one that we were after.”

The has undergone a complete renovation, including the gourmet kitchen.

Mr Garing said it’s nice and flat and perfect for their needs.

“Everything’s been renovated. It looks good and it’s still got scope to do some more things in the future as well.”

Ray White Highton agent Sean O’Brien said the home was a standout in today’s market, on 899sq m of flat land in a premium position, which was close to Christian College, Deakin University, Epworth Hospital and Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre.

“It’s an absolutely outstanding renovation. The family has loved this home. They have done the renovations themselves,” he said.

Indoor-outdoor living has central billing at the brick residence, where the main living hub links to a large outdoor entertainment area and a solar-heated swimming pool in the north-facing backyard.

The interior displays quality finishes throughout, from hardwood timber floors to stone benchtops in the kitchen and two bathrooms and a suite of Miele cooking appliances.

Mr O’Brien kicked off the auction with a $1.05m vendor bid before the first bidder entered at $1.06m.

The two bidders quickly traded $10,000 bids before Mr O’Brien confirmed the property was on the market at $1.12m.

Bids dropped to $5000 increments before the underbidder tried two last $1000 bids before the new owner was decided.

The Garings had recently sold their four-bedroom home in Oxbow Court for more than $1.7m.

The home, constructed by Finch Builders with interior advice from The Design Co, is split over four levels, with three living rooms.

Garing returned to the Cats AFLW line-up this season after giving birth to Parker and returning through the club’s VFLW side earlier this year.
