Controversial construction union boss John Setka is set to retire as the Victorian-Tasmanian Secretary of the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining, and Energy Union.
Mr Setka informed union delegates on Thursday of his decision to not to seek re-election later this year.
In a statement released to the media, the union said Mr Setka "remains focused on accomplishing ongoing goals, he also anticipates embarking on the next chapter of his life."
There is no word yet on who might replace him.
Mr Sekta began his working life as a labourer at age 19. In the 1980s, he worked for the Builders Labourers Federation union before it was deregistered in 1986.
