22 Quarter Sessions Rd, Church Point is built in the style of a San Francisco Bay house.

Church Point on Sydney’s northern beaches is a small exclusive Pittwater suburb that is poised to clock up a huge residential record.

Currently the suburb record is $7.35m but a large gated estate has just come to market with a guide of $8.5m to $9m – head and shoulders above the record set for a house in McCarrs Creek Rd last November.

No.22 Quarter Sessions Rd is a very private 5235sq m estate with an oversized double-brick residence in the style of a San Francisco Bay house.

Every room has Pittwater views.

Sandstone excavated from the cellar forms walls in the garden surrounding the infinity edge pool.

Owners Robert Mander and Susie McCarthy, who spent some years in the States, undertook a total renovation in 2012 and now the property has travertine terraces, a new vast marble kitchen, a rooftop viewing platform with views in every direction, bespoke cabinetry and a new climate-controlled cellar fully 15m long.

Mander, who co-founded database company Walsh International for pharmaceutical firms, bought the property in 2003 for $3.2m and set about creating a sophisticated sanctuary.

Sandstone excavated from the cellar now forms walls in the garden, there is an infinity-edge pool and a cabana, and every room in the house has Pittwater views – often through beautiful arched windows.

The owners did a major renovation in 2012, including a new vast marble kitchen.

“We love the light in this house – it gets sunshine the whole day and there is reflective light creating a continuously changing scene,” he says.

The pair also delight in the visiting birdlife, including glossy black cockatoos, as well as echidnas and the cheeky wallaby that drinks from the billabong.

The four-to-five-bedroom house has formal and open-plan living areas, a guest suite, three bathrooms, a private office, tallowwood floors, two fireplaces and two double garages.

James Baker, of McGrath Pittwater, says the north vistas above the Pittwater shoreline are extraordinary and the interiors exquisite.

The very private property is for sale by expressions of interest closing on May 23.
