A Hawaiian-inspired beach house overlooking world champion surfer Mick Fanning’s home break is up for grabs — but you’ll need a deepwater budget to secure it.

The southern Gold Coast property commands stunning ocean and Hinterland views and is marketed via an expressions of interest campaign with Coastal agents James Massey and Harry Eco.

It has been held since 2016 by Sean Carthew, co-founder of the Brisbane-based Burger Urge chain, and last changed hands for just under $2.6m

While the three-storey home is listed without a price guide, the most recent comparable sale was another five-bedroom house on a similar size block and with similar views in Currumbin, which was snapped up for $8m.

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 23 Wagawn St, Tugun has direct beach access via a private staircase and down the hill.

Local surfers at Tugun include three-time world champion Mick Fanning, who has invested about $10m in the suburb since 2021.

It has served as a lucrative holiday rental property

Mr Massey said the house enjoyed a unique hillside position on a large 888 sqm block, and had been rented out as short-term holiday accommodation for up to $2,500 a night during peak season.

“You are so high on the hill that you really feel like you’re the king of the coast,” Mr Massey said.

“It really is the perfect holiday home, and it’s so unique because you have two street access and a private track taking you straight down to one of the most beautiful and quiet white sandy beaches on the Gold Coast.”

Ideal for a large family, the home provides plenty of space and separation with the top level given over to a master suite with a private oceanview balcony, large walk-in robe and luxurious ensuite, as well as a parents’ retreat.

Features include a rear alfresco entertaining zone with a Hawaiian-style bar, large covered dining area, and 25m lap pool and spa.

Natural materials have been incorporated throughout the design, while high ceilings and large windows throughout the home allow for plenty of natural light.

An upstairs multipurpose area could serve as a yoga studio, or be converted into two additional bedrooms.

Mr Massey said the property had attracted plenty of interest from cashed-up local and interstate buyers.

PropTrack data shows house prices in Tugun were up 11.4 per cent over the past year, to a median of $1.225m.
