Retired barrister Frank Kalyk and his wife Glenda have sold their stunning Darling Point Italianate villa Trevenna-Roskear for $22m …. and bought an agent’s house for $12m.
The Kalyks are now winemakers based in Bordeaux so they have no need for the sprawling 1888-built three-storey six-bedroom manor at 71 Darling Point Rd, bought for $11m from JP Morgan boss Paul Uren.
They’re at Château Picoron in south-west France, with more than four hectares of Merlot vines, for six months of the year, but, with Glenda co-owner of La Croiz cafe in Potts Point, they also needed a Sydney bolthole.

But having lived in one of Sydney’s most beautiful homes, where might that be?
They found just the place in Moncur St, Woollahra, a pretty three-bedroom terrace that has the same sort of street presence as Trevemma-Roskear.
The owner, Sotheby’s director Maclay Longhurst, is understood to be chuffed — he’d bought the home for $8.3m in September 2021, and not spent a cent on it.
At that rate, he’s made close to $120k for every month that he’s owned it!
Longhurst has been on a roll since he joined the Sothebys crew in February, selling 22 Greenoaks Ave, Darling Point, owned by the Rosenberg family, for $17.2m; 13A Roslyn Gardens, Elizabeth Bay, owned by avid sailor David Mathlin, for $7.25m and 42 Cambridge Ave, Paddington, owned by banker Tom Halliwell and his wife, Tanya, for $5.7m.
The agent’s also picked up a few good listings this week, including the Bondi Beach home of top designer Chloe Matters and her ex-husband, the BresicWhitney director Adrian Oddi, at 6 Forest Ave, Bondi Beach, up for May 11 auction with a $7m guide (with colleague James Ball). It comes with plans to transform it into one of the most impressive homes on the eastern beaches.
Then there’s a grand mansion penthouse in Manar, Potts Point, which has a $10m guide; and a home on a massive 525sqm, the biggest land in John St, Woollahra, also with a $10m guide.
