Five trainers and three stablehands facing more than 270 charges will learn their fate on Tuesday when decisions are handed down in the Aquanity inquiry.

Robert Smerdon, Tony Vasil, Stuart Webb, Greg and Denise Nelligan, Trent Pennuto, Liam Birchley and Danny Garland are all waiting to learn Judge John Bowman's decisions.

The Aquanita inquiry, which commenced in October and is now considered one of the biggest racing scandals since World War II, is getting closer to a conclusion, but another protracted drug court case ended late last week.

Justice Greg Garde of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) handed down his decision on costs surrounding the long-running case of Mark Kavanagh and Danny O’Brien’s cobalt charges.

Justice Garde said that the two trainers and Racing Victoria would have to pay their own costs.

It’s understood that the two trainers will face costs as high as $1 million.
