"I try not to let that infiltrate," Bolton said.

"I worry about the process more than that."

He admitted he was shattered when Gold Coast's Jack Bowes kicked the winning goal with 10 seconds remaining but he soon recognised the team blew their opportunity to put the game beyond reach in the third quarter.

Bolton, who has coached the Blues to 15 wins in 70 games during a massive rebuild of the club's list, said the frustration was growing however he considered the team to be improving.

"I understand that we want more results in terms of wins ... we think we're moving forward," Bolton said.

"We just need to make sure that we persevere and it will turn at some point."

Carlton have included ruckman Matthew Kreuzer and forward Jack Silvagni for their first games of the season as they attempt to break through against a Bulldogs side who have lost their past two.

The Blues dropped Levi Casboult and Matthe Lobbe and will have a more balanced forward line against the Bulldogs.

Bolton said they had been working hard on increasing the connection between their midfield and attack after last week's debacle in which they struggled to take a mark inside 50 in the second half.

He backed key forward Charlie Curnow, who hurt his knee in round two, to turn around his recent indifferent form, saying that such ups and downs made players and clubs better in the long run.

"In the long term that is what makes players strong," Bolton said.

"He's determined and working hard to get his game to the level he wants."
