Collingwood father-son prospect Nick Daicos says he will be supporting the Pies in Thursday night’s match against Carlton, despite growing up a Blues fan.

Daicos, set to be in the first handful of picks in this year’s national draft, is the son of Magpies legend Peter and younger brother of current Pie Josh but barracked for Carlton since he was six, idolising Marc Murphy.

But Nick said his allegiances were now with Collingwood.

“Obviously I love the Collingwood Football Club and I’m always supporting them but when Carlton are playing as well I have a soft spot for the Blues. Come Thursday night I’ll be barracking for the Pies I’m sure, especially with Josh out there, but I don’t want the Blues to get smashed,” Daicos said on Tuesday at the launch of the NAB League boys season.

Daicos produced an eye-catching performance on Friday in a practice match for the Pies’ VFL team. He will split his time this year between Collingwood’s VFL side and the Oakleigh Chargers.

“It was unreal. Obviously I learnt a lot from playing VFL, it was a big step up and took a few things from the game that now I can work on, so it was a good experience for me.

“It was a great feeling. I was just happy to get out on the park and to play OK.

“It was my first game in 21 months so the six weeks [of training] at Collingwood doing a bit of match sim, that really helped.”
