Your guilty streaming pleasure?
I’m obsessed with those English real estate shows where couples (the women seem to wear no makeup) decide to sell everything and buy houses in tiny rural communities. Or the ones where they want to move to Spain to establish a snail farm.
Which phrase do you overuse?
I’d kill for a snooze.
What did you want to do when you grew up?
A vet, an actress, an investigative journalist, a primatologist, a camel safari guide…all dependent on which midday movie I’d seen.
What was your first job?
My first job out of uni was a researcher at the kids’ show Simon Townsend’s Wonder World! Best social office ever but a tough work environment. Anyone who worked there developed a thick skin and a robust work ethic.
Facebook or Instagram?
Instagram. I usually pore (paw!) over images of dogs. Dogs being cute, dogs being funny, dogs being
rescued. I waste a lot of time this way.
Recommend a podcast...
I listen to the New York Times podcast The Daily on my way to work. And I’m enjoying Matt Bevan’s China If You’re Listening. And I’m a sucker for the India Hicks podcast. She interviews her 90-year-old mother (Lord Mountbatten’s daughter and the Queen’s Lady in Waiting) about her early life.
What’s one vice you wish you could give up?
After dinner chocolate.
The song that’s always on high rotation?
Landslide by The Chicks.
What are you reading?
I’ve just finished Honeybee by Craig Silvey, which was great, but my favourite book this year was American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins.
Favourite movie of the past decade?
Hunt for the Wilderpeople was just wonderful, but I’d also give Toy Story 3 an honourable mention. Sobbed through it, and it makes me nostalgic for those wonderful afternoons I’d spend watching movies with my sons.
Top of your sporting bucket list?
Being at the finals at the French Open tennis, then sipping wine and people watching at an outdoor cafe. The tennis is secondary really.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
When I first started brekkie radio, someone said to me “there’ll be days when you’re tired…accept it”. Those words have been quite liberating and stop me being anxious on those nights where you just can’t drop off to sleep.
What are the three things you couldn’t live without?
Family, tea, and the dogs of insta.
