The duplex at 26 Sandridge Street, Bondi, last traded for $30,000 in 1985.

How hot is Bondi during this lockdown? An old duplex that last traded for $30,000 in 1985 has sold for $5.25m. Meanwhile, a one-bedder attracted an incredible 27 bidders!

I was one of the 149 viewers to tune into auctioneer Damien Cooley’s live stream last night, showing the popularity of virtual auctions during lockdown.

The freestanding duplex in Sandridge Street attracted eight bidders and Cooley called it onto the market at $4.25m, indicating it may have sold about $1m over reserve.

That’s an incredible windfall for the owner, which property records show is property investor Yvonne Aris, who had it listed with Raine and Horne Double Bay/Bondi Beach principal Ric Serrao and colleague Conrad Panebianco.

26 Sandridge Street, Bondi, has large rooms and high ceilings but no view.

It attracted eight bidders.

The two four-bedroom residences offers no views but are very well located, just a 400m walk to either Bondi Beach or Tamarama Beach.

The two-level building was promoted as offering “versatile options” for conversion to one residence or keeping both as apartments for multi-generational families, living in one and renting out the other or as a pure investment.

With high ceilings and large rooms, the duplex is well maintained and ready to move into.

16/96 Curlewis Street, Bondi, offers 81 sqm of space.

The terrace helped attract 27 registered bidders.

The one-bedroom apartment at 16/96 Curlewis Street, Bondi Beach, attracted even more interest with 27 registered bidders via Raine and Horne’s Paul Langsam.

It sold for $1,355,000, $155k above its $1.2m reserve and nearly double the $701,000 it last traded for in 2014.

Buyers obviously loved that it was a decent size at 81sqm; was on the top floor; had a north-easterly aspect; a separate home office and especially the large terrace.
