Derek Chauvin’s notoriety hasn’t appeared to have affected the sale of his Florida home.
The former 3-bed, 3 bath home in Windemere of the disgraced ex-police officer jailed for the killing of George Floyd is expected to fetch its listed price of US$475,000 ($701,000).
The ‘townhome’, which is about 15km outside Orlando, was graffitied by protesters in the wake of the May 2020 incident in which Chauvin was jailed for 21 years.
That graffiti has been cleaned up and potential buyers have been attracted to the property despite its history. The price tag is in line with other comparable homes nearby and on the listing a sale is indicated as ‘pending’.

That can indicate negotiations are still underway or a price has been agreed upon but not finalised.
According to The Sun, Chauvin’s name is on the contract of sale, so any potential buyer who know who the owner was.
It’s expected to sell for around $700,000.

The booming Florida market and time passed since the murder, which made headlines worldwide, has pushed aside many concerns buyers may have.
When asked if a controversial history could impact sale price in the area, an unnamed local real estate agent told The Sun that it all depended on the market.
“I would say in a different market/time there were more challenges involved with something of that nature,” the agent said.
“The market in Florida these days though, is just too strong for anyone to not take a shot at a home here if they want it.”
Chauvin appears to have bought the home, which is part of a wider complex with amenities for use by homeowners, off the plan. It is the first time the ‘townhome’ has been on the market.
“As you walk in, your eyes will be drawn to the hardwood floor and crown molding all throughout the first floor,” the listing reads.
“Downstairs you have the living room, dining room and the kitchen. The kitchen features granite countertops, 42-inch cabinets, tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and an island with storage space.
One of the three bedrooms.
“From there you can access your fenced-in patio and 2-car garage. On the second floor, you have the 3 bedrooms, a built in workspace, and the laundry room. Community includes a clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, playground, walking trails and fishing pier.
“It’s a great location close to restaurants, shopping, and Disney!”
