30 Kangaroo Ground Warrandyte Rd, North Warrandyte - for herald sun real estate

30 Kangaroo Ground Warrandyte Rd, North Warrandyte, has an about 50-year-old time capsule on the property.

An 1860s miner’s cottage has hit the market as a veritable time machine.

In fact, the North Warrandyte mud brick house actually has a 50-year-old time capsule a part of it.

The rest of the home at 30 Kangaroo Ground Warrandyte Rd is filled with historic detail, too.

Barry Plant Eltham director Theo Politis said from the metal drum ceilings to the exposed timber beams, a careful renovation had extended the home while preserving its past.

“And it feels a lot bigger inside than what it is,” Mr Politis said.

Vintage doors and wagon-wheel lights in the kitchen are among the recycled features added during the overhaul.

The home’s view is one of its most timeless features.

Exposed beams and bricks are features of the home.

The kitchen still has its original oven and wall as a feature.

Original kitchen elements include an exposed mud brick feature wall around a wood-burning oven.

Though there is also a more modern kitchen fit-out with tiled splashbacks and a charred oregon timber island bench.

Perhaps the most timeless feature is the view, with the upper level’s open-plan living zones and terrace all located to take in the gum trees fading away into the distance.

Three ground-level bedrooms blend old and new aspects, but two bathrooms (including an ensuite to the main bedroom) are decidedly more new than old.

Living spaces make the most of the home’s lush views.

The home’s original parts are often delineated by exposed cedar.

Parts of the home certainly qualify as antiques.

The sprawling 3237sq m allotment is surprisingly low maintenance with an array of native plants spread across it and a mud brick studio that could suit as a home office.

Mr Politis said the home had already received close to twice the normal level of inquiry for a home in the area, with its first open for inspection not slated until Saturday afternoon.

It is listed for sale with a $1.25m-$1.35m asking price.
