A number of A-list Victorians have quickly and quietly sold their properties in the weeks leading up to Christmas, reeling in huge sales despite falling house prices across the state.

Injured Australian cricket all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has hit his Aberfeldie home for six, selling it just a week after listing.

The former Stars captain put the 37 Beaver St pad on the market with a $2.5m-$2.75m price tag, as he gears up to move across the river following his recent marriage to long-term partner Vini Ramen.

The 37 Beaver St pad notched a $2.85m sale.

McDonald Upton Essendon partner Joe Zucco said two buyers were “fighting it out” to secure the four-bedroom home, before a young family placed the successful $2.85m offer that pushed the sale above its initial asking price.

“It’s a really good family spot, in a great street and on a great parcel of land,” Mr Zucco told Property Confidential when it was first listed.

The sale comes after Maxwell had to pull out of this season’s Big Bash League tournament due to breaking his leg in a freak accident.

AFL Hall of Famer and Hawthorn football club veteran Dermott Brereton’s Mentone home with a “ripper gym” has also been swept off the market just a couple of weeks after it was listed.

The purchaser was a couple whose teenage sons planned to make use of the gym.

The four-bedroom home at 19 Sea Pde initially had a $2.5m-$2.75m price tag before selling for an undisclosed sum understood to be in the middle of that range.

JP Dixon Real Estate Brighton boss Jonathan Dixon would not comment on the sale price, but said he had received good interest from a number of local buyers.

Mr Dixon added the purchaser was a couple with teenage sons who planned to make use of the ex-footballer’s gym.

“The home has views of the bay with an enormous garage and a ripper gym,” he told Property Confidential.

Renowned SeaChange actor Sigrid Thornton has sold her and film producer husband Tom Burstall’s North Melbourne home following a lengthy campaign.

The 2-4 Carroll St home was listed in late September with a $3.8m-$4.1m price guide, before it passed in at its October 22 auction.

While the listing was then pulled from the market, the four-bedroom Victorian terrace house finally notched a sale in early December, with CoreLogic records showing it sold for $3.9m.

Nelson Alexander Carlton North agent Stephanie Hawke had the listing, but declined to comment on the sale.
