An “American, French provincial, Hamptons and classical” style Tarneit dream home has smashed the suburb’s price record by $440,000.

The six-bedroom house on 1000sq m at 8 Scarborough Court fetched $1.84m in a private sale that left all previous benchmarks in the outer western suburb in its wake.

Barry Plant Tarneit director Rick O’Halloran said the house itself was a mega 696sq m, with four living areas, garaging for six cars and a prime location in the Royal Oaks estate.

“In the Royal Oaks estate, every single allotment is 1000sq m, and there are only 60 properties in its four streets,” he said.

“These blocks cost about $120,000 when they were for sale 20 years ago, when you could have bought in any other part of the City of Wyndham back then for $60,000, so double the price.”

The house was a builder’s own home that took about 18 months to build in 2009-2010, with a handmade kitchen that took five months to construct.

Mr O’Halloran said the buyers were an extended family made up of two sisters, their mother, one of their husbands and their three young children.

Another family missed out on the property, which had a price guide of $1.8m-$1.98m.

“I don’t think this result will get beaten inside of the next five years, that’s how far ahead of the pack it is,” Mr O’Halloran said.

Room for the whole extended family and more come Christmas.

He sold No. 4 Scarborough Court, across the road, for $1.35m in September.

The previous record for Tarneit was the sale of the five-bedroom house on 834sq m at 1 St Patricks Place for $1,400,101 in February.

Mr O’Halloran said the five-bedroom house on 692sq m he sold at 29 Autumn Fields Circuit for $1.135m in mid-2019 could potentially challenge for the suburban crown one day, but market conditions and the calibre of No. 8 Scarborough meant it would be a while.

Reliance Real Estate agent Abhi Elawadhi has previously dubbed the Royal Oaks estate “the Toorak of Tarneit”.

“Anyone who is local understands the value of Royal Oaks estate, because it’s like the Toorak of Tarneit,” he told the Herald Sun when he set a record there in January 2021.

Blocks in the Royal Oaks estate are significantly larger than in the rest of Tarneit.
