A leading winemaker and his wife are hoping to take their world-renowned Barossa business to the next level but first, the family home needs to go.

Winemaker Mark Pearce and wife Susanna are looking to part ways with Threefold Farm, at 916 Stockwell Rd, which forms part of the revered Kellermeister estate in Angaston.

The 3.5ha property, which sits across the road from the Kellermeister cellar door, has been listed for sale with a price guide of $1.85m, and includes a renovated French provincial style cottage and a working vineyard with Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro grapes.

“Ideally, we want to lease back the vineyard from the new owners, but the sale is (prompted by) us wanting to buy more vineyards for our Kellermeister brand,” Mrs Pearce said.

“We’re also starting a new brand under our name Pearce Family Wine, so we’d like to do another renovation or potentially a whole new build with some more vineyards as well, to have some fruit guaranteed for our winery and brands going forward.”

While a lease-back agreement between the vendors and the new owners could prove fruitful, Mrs Pearce said the renovated, four-bedroom cottage came with its own potential.

She said holiday accommodation was sparse across the Barossa, making the home an ideal candidate for savvy investors looking to break into the tourism market.

Equally, the property has all the making of the perfect family home – after all, it’s what it was

intended for when the Pearce’s purchased the property in 2010.

“Renovating the house was always something that we wanted to do when we purchased it but … didn’t really start it till 2015 as we went and to live in southern France for a while, for Mark to do the vintage there,” Mrs Pearce said.

“But it was that time overseas that eventually inspired the renovation … including adding three bedrooms at the back and pulling out the ceiling to expose these beautiful Oregon beams from the original barn.

“I think we ended up creating a great family home and raised our three kids there when they were little, so of course it will be sad to see it go when it sells.

“But at the end of the day, our business is winemaking and that’s what we want to pass on to our family as a legacy.”

Selling agent Sam Hayes, of Toop and Toop Rural, said interest in the property was gaining

momentum.

“It’s been a real mixture of people inquiring about the property,” he said.

“We have investors, homebuyers but also people looking at it from a commercial standpoint.

“Because of where it’s located, the house could be turned into another (private) cellar door but, of course, there are also people who are looking for their own holiday home in the Barossa, including people from Sydney, Melbourne and overseas, so it’ll be interesting to see who ends up with it.”
