Here's a quick wrap of the COVID-19 news and case numbers from each Australian jurisdiction for the past week, as reported on September 29, 2023.

The states and territories are now reporting their COVID-19 statistics weekly, instead of through the daily updates that were provided from the early days of the pandemic.

This story will be updated as state and territory figures are released.

Australian Capital Territory

There were 178 new COVID-19 cases in the ACT last week.

The territory has eight people in hospital with COVID-19, and one in intensive care.

There were no new deaths recorded.

New South Wales

The state has recorded 2,232 new COVID-19 cases, down from last week's total of 2,333.

There are 651 cases in hospital with the virus, 12 of those in intensive care.

There were 17 new deaths recorded.

Northern Territory

The territory updates its COVID-19 data fortnightly. There have been 187 new cases between September 15 and September 29.

The Northern Territory currently has 13 patients in hospital.

The Northern Territory has recorded 109 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The next COVID-19 update from the Northern Territory is expected on October 13.

Queensland 

Queensland has recorded 77 new COVID-19 cases in the week to September 26.

The state has recorded 75 people in hospital with COVID-19.

South Australia 

The state has recorded 736 new COVID-19 cases in the week to September 27.

South Australia currently had 36 patients in hospital and two in intensive care, as of September 26.

There were 22 new deaths recorded.

Tasmania

Tasmania has recorded  277 new COVID-19 cases in the week to September 28.

The state has recorded 18 people in hospital with COVID-19 and one in intensive care.

 There were no new deaths recorded.

Victoria 

Victoria had recorded 120 new COVID-19 cases in the week to September 26.

The state has recorded 168 people in hospital with COVID-19 and five in intensive care.

The state has recorded two new deaths.

Western Australia

Western Australia has recorded 566 new COVID-19 cases between September 18 and September 24.

There were 13 people admitted to hospital with the virus, with none in intensive care.

There were four new deaths recorded.

The federal government is keeping a national tally of COVID-19 statistics.

However, there are delays in reporting some figures.
