Australian media mogul Russel Howcroft and his wife Kate Burke are looking to offload their historic family home in Hawthorn with price hopes of more than $5m.

Howcroft, known as the “king of Melbourne radio”, currently hosts the widely popular morning radio program Breakfast with Ross and Russel on 3AW with presenter Ross Stevenson.

He is also a TV panellist on the ABC’s Gruen program and has appeared as a guest panellist on The Project.

A household name across the nation, Howcroft was previously the chief executive of advertising agency George Patterson Y&R, and later an executive at Network Ten.

He has written and co-written three best-selling books.

Now, the radio and advertising guru has listed his family’s home at 23 Riversdale Rd after more than 20 years of ownership.

The 131-year-old Queen Anne-style dwelling, just metres from the Yarra River, features a solar-heated swimming pool, glamorous kitchen and other contemporary additions, while still retaining its period charm.

It has a $4.8m-$5.2m price tag with Kay & Burton Boroondara director Nicole Gleeson and agent Sam Wilkinson, with expressions of interest closing on November 14.

“Kate and I are sad to be leaving (our) family home, it has been a brilliant space for us, our family and our friends,” Howcroft said.

“It’s been a very creative space, I’ll miss the creativity that occurred in the house … and the location is not bad either.”

The five-bedroom pad is positioned on a spacious, 1424sq m block, boasting established gardens, a covered entertainer’s deck, a poolside entertaining area and a self-contained studio bedroom with an adjoining storage room or home gym.

“The Howcrofts have treasured their family home for more than 20 years but are ready to pass the keys over to someone who can make the most of the substantial home,” Ms Gleeson said.
