22 Cranbrook Rd, Bellevue Hill has a $30m price guide.

A stately Bellevue Hill home with links to the Westfield retail empire has come to market sporting a $30m price guide.

According to title records, the grand five-bedroom house on Cranbrook Rd has been in the name of Mark Saunders, heir to a mammoth shopping centre fortune.

Since 1996 when it traded for $975,000, the property has been a part of the Saunders’ residential portfolio, occupied by all family members over this period.

Saunders was the only son of the late John Saunders AO, who along with Sir Frank Lowy founded the original Westfield Plaza in Blacktown in the 1950s. The pioneering shopping centre with its 12 shops, two department stores and a supermarket kickstarted a global multibillion-dollar retail kingdom.

By the 1980s, Saunders and Lowy floated Westfield on the stock exchange and later in the same decade dissolved the business partnership. Saunders reportedly sold his interests in the company in 1987 for between $21m and $24m.

Saunders senior then went on to found property development company Terrace Tower Group, the entity behind Sydney’s Eastgardens Shopping Centre and the Supa Centa Moore Park among other investments. The Terrace Tower Group continues to be run by Saunders’ descendants today.

Listing agent Ashley Bierman of Ray White Double Bay says: “This is an incredible property that really sets itself apart from others in the neighbourhood given its huge frontage and harbour views over Rose Bay and its district.

The interiors have been given a makeover recently.

“The house was completed about 10 years ago and since then has undergone a recent makeover to refresh the interiors.

“The generous floor plan over three floors allows for panoramic views from the principal living and dining areas as well as the terraces.”

The luxury three-level house, which is connected by a lift to all floors, sits on a 870sq m block with 570sq m of internal living space and a huge 25m frontage along one of Sydney’s most coveted streets.

Beyond the entry foyer, a spacious open plan living area incorporates a lounge room with a sleek gas fireplace and a dining zone off the contemporary kitchen and large butler’s pantry.

This everyday living space spills out onto a wraparound balcony and a covered dining terrace perfectly capturing water and district views over Rose Bay.

Downstairs there is more room for entertaining on a grand scale in the family games room and home cinema.

The additional retreat has all the ingredients for a close-knit gathering or large soiree thanks to a second full kitchen, powder room and direct access to the backyard.

The grounds feature a self-cleaning pool with spa, a freestanding poolside pavilion, a barbecue terrace, manicured lawns and landscaped gardens.

Up on the accommodation floor, there are five bedrooms including a main suite with a walk-in wardrobe, bath ensuite and study nook.

The remaining bedrooms have large wardrobes, ensuites or balcony access with one currently configured as a home office featuring integrated desk space and storage.

Extra features at the Cranbrook Rd property include zip taps in both kitchens, a lower level bathroom servicing the pool area, a double lock up garage, underfloor heating, double-glazed windows, CCTV, security shutters, indoor and outdoor speakers, reverse cycle air-conditioning plus keyless entry.
