TRG founder Gavin Rubinstein will be one of the keynote speakers at this year’s AREC real estate conference on the Gold Coast, May 26-27.
Life for Gavin Rubinstein has changed dramatically since he did his last keynote speech at the real estate conference, AREC, in 2016.
Back then, he was just 26 and already on the rise, having been Ray White’s top-selling agent for the previous four years.
But fast forward another eight years, at 34, he’s a mega star: founded his own company, The Rubinstein Group; opened a shiny new Rose Bay HQ with a staff of more than 40; starred in a reality TV show, got his own weekly podcast and even appearing in ads spruiking El Cielo tequila.
At this year’s AREC, on the Gold Coast on May 26-27, his subject is: “Find Your Edge. And then Sharpen It.”
But while he’s hoping his presentation encourages young agents, success won’t come to those who simply try to follow his footsteps.

“My first piece of advice is ‘Don’t be like me’,” he laughs.
“Be an individual as unless you’re authentic, you won’t win.”
Having achieved so much over the past eight years, Rubinstein says he’s “super excited” to have been invited by AREC founder John McGrath to talk this year.
“It’s been a while since I’ve done a keynote, although I have done quite a few question and answer sessions at AREC over the years,” Rubinstein said.
“This year I’m going to be talking about ‘how to stand out’, and then how to maintain it through a learning mindset.”
Rubinstein says his key to succeeding in the real estate business is “becoming obsessed with progression”.
“Unless you are evolving — particularly in this market that we’re in — you’re going to get left behind,” he said.

“I’m going to be explaining how I do this, and hopefully inspire.”
Apart from finding authenticity, the young gun’s message will be that there’s “no silver bullet”.
“Today’s generation of young agents want it to be quick and easy, looking for a silver bullet and not being prepared to do seven days a week for 10 years,” he says.
“In regard to the commitment side of things, they have this false expectation around thinking it’s going to be easy, or upload a pretty picture on social media and think they’re going to get a listing from it — that’s not how it works.”
It all comes back to an “obsession with learning and progression”, he believes.
“I’ve built it into my whole philosophy, it’s the key to taking things to the next stage — I’ve gone from assistant to founding what I believe to be one of the most progressive real estate brands in the country,” he says.
And there’s so much more to come, he assures, with announcements pending of further expansion plans.
So watch this space.
