A Templestowe mansion that was the holiday home of an oil baron and philanthropist once named Indonesia’s 47th richest person is for sale.
Boasting a floodlit tennis court, pool, spa and gazebo in the 4198sq m garden, the six-bedroom house at 21 Sarah Cres is on the market with a $5.5m-$6m asking range.
The double-storey home is owned by the family of oil and gas company MedcoEnergi International founder Arifin Panigoro, who died in February, aged 76.

Mr Panigoro also owned palm oil plantations, hotels and stakes in two banks.
In 2020, he was ranked at number 47 on the list of Indonesia’s 50 richest people with an estimated net worth of $550m.
Woodards Manningham partner Alec Stefanoski declined to comment on the vendor but public records show the house is owned by Mr Panigoro and his family.
The kitchen has stainless-steel appliances and an abundance of cabinetry.
Mr Stefanoski said that in 2004, the owners appointed Kew East-based luxury builder Englehart to build the property, which they used as a holiday house.
“It’s very unusual for the City of Manningham, it feels like a little slice of Toorak in Templestowe,” Mr Stefanoski said.
“It’s got an amazing wow factor the moment you walk through the front door.
“It’s an entertainer’s dream that could probably fit a few hundred people.”
The property includes formal and informal living and dining zones, in-ceiling speakers, a study, powder room and six bathrooms.
The main suite features two walk-in wardrobes, an ensuite with twin basins and a bathtub, and a sitting area with an open fireplace.
“The street, the size and age of the property are probably the biggest drawcards,” Mr Stefanoski said.
“It (the house) is just under 100 squares of living on an acre block.”
Balconies on the second storey have views of the manicured gardens.
He said the quiet Sarah Cres was known as the “Golden Mile of Templestowe” thanks to its large blocks and homes that have sold for millions.
“It is one of Melbourne’s most-desired streets,” Mr Stefanoski said.
Mr Panigoro stepped down from Medco’s management in 1998 to focus on his political career, but remained a company adviser.
He served in Indonesia’s Democratic Party of Struggle for a decade, later resigned to establish a new party along with other politicians and was a Presidential Advisory Council member.

Mr Panigoro established a foundation dedicated to eliminating tuberculosis in Indonesia and was awarded the Bintang Mahaputera Nararya, one of the country’s highest civilian honours.
Templestowe’s $6.9m record house price was set by 327-329 Church Rd in 2008.
Mr Stefanoski also had the listing of a Spanish-inspired four-bedroom house at 8 Albert St that sold for $5m in June.
