They say you should never go shopping on an empty stomach but when it comes to buying a home in Brisbane, you might want to consider just going with your gut.

Exclusive data from Menulog shows the Brisbane suburbs with the most offerings for foodies who would rather eat in than out, and the locations with the most top rated eateries that deliver to your door.

And there are some surprising locations across Brisbane where you can really have your cake and eat it too.

The family-friendly suburb of North Lakes, which is about 33km north of the CBD, has the most 5-star rated takeaways on the food delivery juggernaut.

With a median house price of $730,000 and home to more than 23,000 people, the suburb has become a foodie destination due to its huge Westfield and array of local cafes, restaurants and takeaways, many of which joined the home delivery service during Covid lockdowns.

Its top rated takeaways include Thai Ginger Express, Bellygood and Istanbul Chargrill & Kebab Palace.

The latest PRD National Affordable and Liveable Property Guide also listed Murrumba Downs and Griffin, both close to North Lakes, among its top three suburbs for units, with median sales prices of $385,000 and $430,500 respectively. Brisbane’s second highest rated suburb by reviewers was Upper Mount Gravatt, which has 32 eateries on the food delivery service.

Top In Town Biryani House, Wok ‘n’ Toss and Vinnie’s Pizza, Pasta and Ribs were its top picks for foodies more into Gogglebox than a night on the tiles.

Springwood came in third spot, with its top ranked takeaways being Viet Fresh Rolls, Pazar Mediterranean Grill and Gado Gado Noodle Bar.

Fortitude Valley has the most eateries (58), with the top three cuisines being burgers, dessert and cafe-style.

Brisbane City has 51 eateries with Japanese, Chinese and kebabs the most popular on Menulog.

Fans of the humble fish and chip combo should look to Woolloongabba, where Annerley Fish & Chips is one of its top three nosheries.

Funky West End is home to 26 eateries offering everything from steak and pizza to Korean fried chicken.

Place Kangaroo Point agent Deb Maguire recently sold a unit to a couple who wanted to keep an apartment each in the sought-after suburb so their kids could easily move between homes and their environments.

She said the suburb was an attractive one for foodies, adding “there is something for everyone”.

Meanwhile, Asian food reigns supreme in Sunnybank and Sunnybank Hills, while in Chermside it would seem the done thing is to skip the main and go straight for dessert, with the sweet stuff among its three most popular cuisines.

Menulog commercial director Rory Murphy said that is heartening to see so many restaurants and cafes thriving again post-Covid.

“When it comes to the areas with the most restaurants and cafes in 2023, Menulog data shows Brisbane’s lively Fortitude Valley still lives up to its reputation, boasting the most restaurants and cafes in the Sunshine State,” he said, adding that the data showed the growth in eateries away from the CBD.

Looking at a national level, Mr Murphy said it was clear from their data that Aussies shared a love for Asian food, with pizza also a top delight in Brisbane.

“And of course, the humble kebab continues to be a fan favourite for Aussies in every state, with Menulog customers in every state ranking the cuisine and certain kebab spots as their top picks,” he said.

PropTrack economist Cameron Kusher said amenities and local dining options were buying considerations, but those were usually trumped by good schools and public transport

“But everyone likes to support a local,” he said, adding he was surprised to see some of the suburbs ahead of the more usual hot spots like West End and Fortitude Valley.
