A rarely traded strip in Geelong has emerged as a favourite among buyers relocating from the country.

The latest property to sell on Barwon Blvd at Highton attracted four bidders to an auction, but the successful buyers will be making the journey from Victoria’s southwest into the city.

Under competition was a four-bedroom residence at 5 Barwon Blvd.

Barry Plant, Highton agent Kieron Hunter said it was one of 11 properties that have direct access to parkland along the riverbank.

Mr Hunter said while one potential buyer had been keen throughout the campaign, the other three didn’t emerge until late in the piece.

“I must have had one interested party from the first week. The buyer saw the property that day, and the other two saw it for the first time on Thursday,” Mr Hunter said.

He said what was on offer was glaringly obvious.

“We are on the river front, this is a true river frontage property in Highton, 775sq m, there’s only 11 houses that border the banks of the Barwon River,” he said.

“When I listed it, I’ve sold six more along Barwon Blvd in my time and more than half that I’ve sold are to people from the country. I said to the vendor I bet you somebody from the country coms to buy it.

“They don’t feel hemmed it. They want to get close to amenities and stuff but they also don’t want to have so many neighbours.”

While buyers were out to secure the position, the house offered some nice features to work with, including cathedral ceilings and that outdoor entertaining area on the river.

“It was immaculate. You’d spend a bomb on it doing kitchens, bathrooms, everything, but it was a good one to do it to,” he said.

The four-bedroom house has two living areas and was well built.

“You’ve also got a lot of off-street parking if you need it when friends come over and visit.

But it is all about the nature – you’re waking up to birdsong.”

The auction kicked off at $1m, having been listed with a price guide of $1.1m to $1.2m.

Mr Hunter said it was on the market at $1.2m.
